Hopkinton-Everett Reservoir - Hopkinton, NH

Another body of water created by man throwing a huge chunk of concrete in the middle of a river. I know it's bad for fish spawning and such, but this created a wonderful place for nature and paddling. This area is easily on my top 5 favorite spots.

Motor boats are allowed and often frequent this area, but it's usually just small fishing boats. I've yet to deal with anyone being annoying or making anything more than a ripple in the water. If you look at my map below you'll see that I tend to have a favorite spot. Once you put it I recommend heading north. The southern body of water never calls to me. Too close to the highway and it opens up into a larger body of water which I don't personally care for. When you get to the northern point you'll find a canal, take it! This is a beautiful tree covered area of still water. About the only thing that makes you want to leave are the mosquitoes, but even they're not typically very bad. But along here you typically see/spook a beaver or two. The canal takes you into a secondary body of water which is very nice where I often see a couple otters. The ends of this section are typically very grown over with lily pads and such, so I've never gotten very far around. But you can see the rock mound which comprises part of the dam and I've never seen anyone else out there.

I went exploring one time and headed far west on the reservoir. Had fun exploring a canal that leads off to the Contoocook River. (See my review of that for the rest of the story.) A neat little passage way but I got cut short by a water drop and increasing current. Started to question my ability to get back up river!

Overall assessment, it's a wonderful area. Great wildlife, good tree cover in areas and lost of places to explore.
