Hermit Lake - Sanbornton, NH

This is a good little lake that's kind of off he beaten path if you're in the NH lakes region. The lake is fairly developed but is still reasonably serene. Power boats are permitted but have not been very prevalent when I've been there, I believe there is a power limit that keeps the big stuff away. There is almost two sections to this lake, if you stick to the southwest side things seem to be a bit quieter, but I have not yet properly explored the north end. You put in at a reasonably accessible boat ramp. Don't use the beach access like I did the first time. That was a long portage! Most times that we've have been there we have been quickly greeted by the local loons. There is a protected nest here so they're almost guaranteed to be around. One time I was fortunate enough to witness one as it torpedoed directly under my boat. There is one spot in the southeast that has some tall grass and some busy bird activity. I find this to be a good lake for just kind of lazily floating around in.
