Pawtuckaway Lake - Nottingham, NH

Pawtuckaway Lake is in part one of New Hampshire's many state parks.  The majority of the western coast is state park land where the eastern side is private residential. I've actually camped at the state park several times and sadly I've only paddled it twice. There are a few camp sites that are ideal which are right on the water and give you immediate access to the lake. Additionally there are kayak rentals available through the camp ground. The rental location also provides a good place to put in. For my most recent adventure we decided to utilize a public boat ramp up on the northern end of the lake. I was really worried when we arrived because there were a flock of motor boats putting it. I immediately assumed we were going to have a bad experience. Fortunately this amount of traffic is not the status quo for the lake, turns out there was a fishing tournament that day. What surprised me was that even with all the boats in the everyone was incredibly well dispersed. The lake was quite quiet and enjoyable. Just in the small section we paddled there were several coves where we could escape the windy day. If you hang towards the west side you get the preferred undeveloped scenery. If you turn east you will see several houses and docks. Overall a pretty decent location.
