Heads Pond - Hooksett, NH

So this is one of my more foolish adventures. This was literally my second trip out after purchasing my own kayak. I had a simple thought, there's a nice little pond just down the road from my house, why not give it a try? There is a nice parking area that connects to the nature path that follows along side of the pond. I have walked it a few times and was familiar with it enough to know that the main body of water is about a 1/2 mile from the parking area. Simple solution, but in right at the parking area where the pond runoff is. After all, I'm in a kayak, I need almost no water to float! Well it wasn't very far up steam that I discovered how much water is too little water. Getting over some of the mud humps was rather interesting, but eventually I made it. Glad no one was around to see the debacle. Once into the main body of water it was fairly nice paddle. The pond is much longer than wide, but still a relatively small, only about .7 miles long.

This is a nice simple, quiet body of water if you can get to it. I would like to give it a go again some day. And I know there has to be a better way to put in because I have seen a small motor boat out there before. I've searched, but I haven't found it! Please share if you know a secret that I'm missing. Overall I'm going to give this a low rating simply based off of the access. If I find a better way in that will go up.
